8th and Diamond Park
Site History
The 8th and Diamond Playground has gone through many changes over the years. Research shows that the plot of land was owned by Anna H. Carver in 1875. By 1910, it was a lumber yard, highlighting the industrial land use of Eastern North throughout the 1900s. By 1942, the land was designated as a park space. The playground, picnic area, basketball courts, and a small multipurpose building were later additions.
Today, the 8th and Diamond Playground is a crucial community hub, hosting events and programming like the MLK “Creative Expressions” event, girl scout meetings, an after-school program, and advisory council meetings.
In 2020, the City’s Rebuild program selected this site for $2.2 million investment in upgrades to and expansion of the recreation center, new playground equipment, and trees.

Historia del sitio
El Patio de Recreo en las calles 8 y Diamante has cambiado mucho a través de los años. Investigación nos indica que la finca donde está el patio de recreo ahora fue comprado por Anna H. Carver en 1875. En el año 1910 fue usado como un almacén de madera, destacando la industrialización del barrio en la comienza del siglo 20. En 1942, la finca fue convertida a un parque. Había un patio de recreo, espacio para tener un picnic, cancha de baloncesto y un centro de recreo fue añadido más tarde.
Actualmente el Patio de Recreo funciona como un centro comunitario, teniendo eventos como el día de expresiones creativas de MLK, reuniones para los “girl scouts”, programas después de escuela y reuniones comunitarias.
En 2020, la programa de la ciudad que se llama “rebuild” escogió este sitio para invertir $2.2 millones de dólares para mejorar y expandir el centro de recreo y añadir más espacio vegetado.
